ALL-INCLUSIVE CAREFREE LIVING
Why spend your free time and life savings caring for a house when you can live better for one low monthly rent?

“For all-inclusive it really is lower than what you would pay to operate a house you know, well, very close.” – Gilbert Gross, resident of The Fountains at Greenbriar

MEET GILBERT GROSS, AN INDEPENDENT THINKER WHO CALLS HIS OWN SHOTS.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Gilbert Gross on Thursday, May 5th, 2016. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)

Gilbert was born the youngest of three boys in South Kansas City. Always fascinated with cars, his first job was doing upholstery work at an auto body shop and his first car was a 340 Duster. Though he fell in love many times, he never married, taking advantage of a footloose lifestyle that took him from Oregon to England throughout his 20s. When he finally settled down, he became an independent contractor, working jobs like driving a cab and operating phones during the Reagan campaign. In 1992, he became the proud owner of a 1930s era home in Lee’s Summit. After enduring its upkeep for 22 years, it dawned on him, “I need to let it go before it just gets worse.”

EASY LIVING FOR THE 55+ SET
Whoever said you have to be retired to enjoy the benefits of retirement community living? Gilbert Gross couldn’t wait to try out a lifestyle where someone else did all the cooking, cleaning, driving, laundry and especially the yard work. At 58, he’s living that dream and loving it. “You know it’s very easy living and that appealed to me when I first saw the advertisements for it back before I was old enough to get in. So why it appealed to me and not someone else I still don’t know that. I mean a lot of people could still work and live in a place like this and cover all their expenses with one check and not have to be concerned about other things. And I like that idea.” – Gilbert Gross

THEY TAKE CARE OF EVERYTHING
Done with home maintenance, Gilbert craved more time for his two favorite hobbies – dogs and cars. After a year of researching his options, he narrowed his search to The Fountains because it was both dog friendly and close to Lee’s Summit. A one-week trial there with his two dogs convinced him to stay. “I had tuned into the 55+ thing when I was still 50. I was like, ‘Hmm, this looks good.’ You know in the way it’s advertised, it’s like just take care of everything. Here they take care of my laundry. They take care of everything. For $50 more a month I can put out all the laundry I want.” – Gilbert Gross

IT’S JUST PLAIN BETTER
Living at The Fountains gives Gilbert the freedom to do what he wants. He still volunteers at all the same places in Lee’s Summit. Whenever he’s away from his apartment, he’s comforted knowing his dogs are safe. Moving from a house with questionable wiring into an apartment building that’s fully sprinklered gave him priceless peace of mind. “It’s every bit as quiet as my house was. If anything it’s just plain better. I’m more relaxed here.” – Gilbert Gross
