The ROMEO’s had their most recent trip out for breakfast at the Depot 1887 Restaurant in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas where they stopped in for a delicious fare of breakfast and brunch favorites. The biscuits and gravy, pancakes, and omelette were among the table favorites. After stopping for our “eating out” portion of ROMEO, we headed over to the Army Base to tour the base and go to the Frontier Army Museum. This interesting historical museum gives the account of the fort and the ever changing history of it using story and artifact to bring it to life. Fort Leavenworth is the oldest standing Army post in continual use West of the Missouri River; since 1827! In almost 200 years of history this military fort now turned base has a profound history not just in military terms, but also on the impact that it has had in the region too. The ROMEO’s had a great time learning about the history and getting special attention from Army personnel and getting to spend a little time with the U.S. Coast Guard who were there on training for the week. Thanks in particular to our two favorite Coast Guards from Corpus Christi, Texas and San Diego, California. Thanks for coming to the aid and rescue of those in peril on the ocean and all other amphibious areas.
